Cause analysis of the influence of the test aerosol on the filtration efficiency of electret filters

摘要
When testing the filtration efficiency of electret filters, for example according to ISO 16890, sometimes significant differences are observed, depending on which test aerosol is used for the measurements. For example, for di-ethylhexyl-sebacate (DENS) often lower filtration efficiencies are found as compared to salts such as potassium or sodium chloride.The cause of these discrepancies was not known until now.Therefore, an analysis of the influence of the test aerosol on the collection efficiency of electret filters was carried out here. It was excluded that charge state, morphology and dielectric properties of the particles are decisive for the observed differences. Instead, it was shown that DENS, in contrast to salt and glycerine aerosols, leads to a significant decrease in the filtration efficiency by discharging already at low doses.
