Effect of magnetoelastic interactions on the formation of spiral magnetic structures in frustrated non-Heisenberg magnets

The spectra of coupled magnetoelastic waves in highly anisotropic non-Heisenberg frustrated magnets with S = 1 are obtained in the mean field approximation. An analysis of the elementary excitation spectra shows that, besides uniform phases (ferromagnetic and quadrupole), spatially-modulated magnetic structures such as magnetic spirals can develop in these systems. The points at which phase transitions into the spiral phase occur are determined. It is shown that magnetoelastic interactions cause significant changes in the size of the region where spiral structures exist. (C) 2011 American Institute of Physics. [doi: 10.1063/1.3604397]
