In situ attenuation of heavy metal mobility in contaminated soil by the use of paper mill sludge

摘要
Application of paper mill sludge to soil of an old landfill, characterized by high levels of heavy metals, produced a relevant decrease (from 30% to 50%) in heavy metal mobile fractions both at laboratory and field scales. The effect was ascribable to the increase in the sorption processes of the soil matrix mixed with the sludge, describable by a Langmuir type equation.
