The Research on Definition and Performance Characteristics of Knowledge Type Workers

Although "knowledge type workers" was introduced in 1959, the scholars had different opinions on its' definition and performance characteristics. The literature on Knowledge type workers and it's performance characteristics are reviewed in this paper. This paper summarizes the definition of Knowledge type workers from four aspects: work content, work way, the nature of work, and employee characteristics And the Knowledge type workers' performance characteristics was concluded from seven facts: Working process is difficult to be controlled, Performance result is difficult to measure, Performance result is creative, Performance result is professional, Performance result has the characteristic of team, Performance assessment is cyclical and Performance result is risky.
