Ductility improvement of Al-rich Ni3Al by unidirectional solidification

摘要
Improvement of the grain boundary brittleness of polycrystalline Ni3Al can be improved by unidirectional solidification using a floating zone method. The solidified microstructure is dependent on the growth rate and chemical composition of alloys. The relation between the microstructure and the room-temperature tensile properties is studied. This method is effective in improving not only the single phase Ni3Al but also Al-rich Ni3Al which has a duplex structure of Ni3Al and NiAl.
