System operation planning including renewables and pumped-storage power plants

摘要
Renewables will play an important role in the generation for the next decades. On the other hand, pumped sorage hydro power plants finds a great opportunity to deal with variability of the natural resource availability, mainly when considering solar and wind generation. This paper presents an introductory review of the world consumption and capacity for 2030. The possible arrangements of construction pumped-storage hydro, costs, and a mathematical model of linear optimization using pumped-storage are analyzed and presented. The simulations consider mainly the contribution of pumped-storage hydro and the results shows that pump-storage power plants perfectaly fits with the system avoiding the variability of the renewable sources.
