摘要
The present study demonstrated the phenol degrading potential of yeast association consisting of two strains identified as Candida tropicalis and Trichosporon montevideense. At initial phenol concentration of 0.5 g.l(-1) the process was carried out in semicontinuous mode using cells of microbial association, free and immobilized on three different carries. The removal efficiency of phenol by free and immobilized cells, the influence of a mixture of five heavy metals on the biodegradation process as well as heavy metal removing efficiency of cells, free and immobilized on Ca-alginate, were also reported. The experimental results indicated that both cells, free suspended and immobilized in Ca-alginate, showed high phenol degrading efficiencies within 144 h, but the immobilized cells showed better performance in the presence of heavy metals compared to that of the suspended cells.
