The fabrication and characterization of novel glass/ lead-zirconate-titanate (PZT) composites with different concentrations of PZT particles processed by hot-pressing were investigated. The PZT powder had a mean particle size in the range 1-2 mm and a density of 7.8g/cm3. X ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Vickers' indentation testing were used to characterize the composites. It was found that a significant increase of fracture toughness has been achieved, whereas the hardness was not significantly affected by addition of the PZT phase.
