An efficient numerical algorithm for transient analysis of exterior scalar wave propagation in a homogeneous layer

摘要
In this paper, a computationally efficient alternative for the analysis of transient wave propagation in an infinite layer is presented. The new method is based on a simple cell centered characteristic finite difference technique. This approach can be used in place of the existing methods based on closed form Green's functions, as it would save considerable computational time and storage. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate the performance of the method. Some guidelines are suggested to further increase the efficiency of the proposed method. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A.
