Residual stress relief and crack closure during fatigue of continuous fibre reinforced ceramic matrix composites

摘要
The paper focuses on two aspects which have hardly been explored in past fatigue investigations on continuous fibre reinforced ceramic matrix composites, namely the relief of axial residual stresses during cycling, triggered by progressive interfacial debonding, and the occurrence of crack closure. It is shown that both factors have a significant effect on cyclic strain accumulation and on life. This effect depends on the fact whether the fatigue behaviour is cycle-or time-dependent.
