摘要
The author reviews the development of administration in social work noting the substantial advances that have occurred in its professional and scholarly standing over the last 30 years. Notwithstanding these gains, he argues that progress toward a strong presence for social work management in both academia and the field appears to be languishing. The paper reviews some of the reasons for the current state of affairs and suggests several strategies that might be pursued to re-energize the enterprise, including the development of a unique approach to management in the human services, a redesign of education for management in social work and more institutionalized interactions between academics and practitioners.
