Precision measurements of ππ scattering lengths at NA48/2

Low energy pp scattering has been studied with high precision by the NA48/2 experiment at the CERN SPS using large data samples of K-+/- -> pi(+/-)pi(0)pi(0) and K-+/- -> pi(+)pi(-)e(+/-)v . (K-e4) decays. The pi(0)pi(0) invariant mass distribution in the K-+/- -> pi(+/-)pi(0)pi(0) decay exhibits a Wigner cusp at the pi(+)pi(-) threshold, from which the scattering lengths a(0) and a(2) are extracted. The measurement of a(0) and a(2) is also performed from K-e4 decay, with similar precision. The combination of these measurement provides a stringent test of Chiral Perturbation Theory.
