The addition of heat from alternative sources of energy to intensify the heat in electric-arc steelmaking furnaces was discussed. The addition of liquid pig has increased the amount of additional heat supplied to the steelmaking operation due to chemical reactions to 130 kWh/ton. It has also resulted in reduction of oxidation losses of the metal by 13 kg/ton and decrease electrode consumption by 1.34 kg/ton. It was suggested to prevent sizable oxidation losses of the metal to increase the productivity of arc steelmaking furnaces.
