Study of nuclear equation of state and nuclear structure via refractive nucleus-nucleus scattering

Realistic density dependent version's of the M3Y effective nucleon-nucleon interaction have been suggested for the calculation of basic properties of nuclear matter. These versions of the M3Y interaction have been tested in the detailed folding model analyses of refractive nucleus-nucleus elastic scattering, and one was able to conclude from these studies that the values of nuclear incompressibility K ranging from 240 to 270 MeV are the most appropriate. These K values imply a rather soft equation of state (EOS) for cold nuclear matter. The new interaction has been used further to study the EOS of asymmetric nuclear matter and to calculate the interaction potential between neutron-rich nuclei.
