Management of the IT industry: A survey of critical challenges

The IT industry is reliant on (inter alia) human resources for its competitiveness. The need for appropriate technical expertise has been well recognised and studied. However; the question of how well middle and upper level managers are equipped to meet the management challenges of the industry has not been explored This paper reports on an industry survey that was conducted in New South Wales to answer this and other questions. The survey has indicated deficiencies in management skill, which maybe impacting the ability of companies to achieve core business objectives. Thus, the problem of management skills may be an impediment to the growth and competitiveness of the IT industry. The outcomes of the survey have prompted the development and sponsorship of a new Management Development Program for the IT Industry.
