摘要
Increased demand for economically viable composite materials in the automotive, medical and aerospace sectors prompted intensive research in the field of advanced lightweight materials. Consequently, efforts were made to modify the existing manufacturing procedures in order to improve the efficiency of the existing composites. Hybrid composites containing more than one reinforcing phase, therefore, emerged as a favorable choice from the research and development. Being the lightest structural metal, magnesium-based hybrid composites showed extraordinary advantages over the other monolithic metals and alloys. This article reviews recent progress in magnesium-based hybrid composite materials discussing the different manufacturing technologies, old and new methods, and composite properties, involving the microstructure, physical and mechanical properties.
