Effect of nitrogen, Rhizobium inoculation and phosphorus on growth and yield of pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan)

摘要
An experiment was conducted during the rainy season (kharif) of 1992 and 1993 to study the response of short-duration 'ICPL 87' pigeonpea [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.] to nitrogen, rhizobium inoculation and phosphorus on sandy-loam soil, low in organic carbon and nitrogen and medium in available P having pH 7.8. Treatments consisted of 6 N levels (0, 15 and 30 kg N/ha with and without inoculation) and 3 P levels (0, 40 and 80 kg P2O5/ha). The crop responded favourably to nitrogen and inoculation. Treatment 15 kg N/ha + inoculation gave significantly higher grain yield than the control, inoculation or 15 kg N/ha, but remained at par with 30 kg N/ha alone or with inoculation. Crop also responded favourably to phosphorus up to 40 kg P2O5/ha. Pods/plant, grains/pod and grain weight/plant were in harmony with Brain yield.
