To provide a realistic basis of determining the viability of a wind-powered hydroelectric system at a potential site, an evaluation technique has been developed to determine the ideal combination of models and quantities of various wind energy conversion systems under consideration. Basically, this approach uses a synthesized wind speed time series to simulate the operation of a wind-powered hydroelectric system at a potential wind farm. An application of this approach is presented. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
