During the summer of 1995, measurements of MSA, nssSO(4)(=), SO2, and DMS were made over the Bay of Fundy and Gulf of Maine in and around marine stratus decks. Preliminary analysis shows DMS to range from the detection level of 1 pptv to approximately 100 pptv 30 m above the sea surface (mean = 24). MSA ranged up to 25 pptv and was correlated with nssSO(4)(=) up to nssSO(4)(=) values of approximately 300 pptv. Size distributions of MSA and nssSO(4)(=) in samples collected during a two day period were very similar indicating that these species were found in fine particles. Ion concentrations of cloudwater samples in an overlying stratus deck compared well with below-cloud filter samples.
