The huge amount of experimental and clinical observations supporting the possible involvement of human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) or Kaposi sarcoma herpesvirus (KSHV) in human lymphoproliferative diseases was critically reviewed during a workshop organized by the Italian Society for Experimental Hematology in Florence, Italy, on July 3(rd), 1997.
