摘要
Pressurized refiner mechanical pulping (PRMP) has been adopted by the Fletcher Challenge Paper, Tasman mill for its new mechanical mill at Kawerau. This process was selected as it enabled the mill to minimize capital and energy costs and improve pulp optical properties relative to the conventional thermomechanical pulping (TMP) process. The decision to use the PRMP process was made based on collaborative research work performed by the mill and the New Zealand Pulp and Paper Research Organisation. The reasons for Fletcher Challenge's selection of the PRMP process and the influence of chip preheating temperature, wood quality and single and two-stage refining on radiata pine mechanical pulp quality are discussed in this paper.
