摘要
The hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS), classically associated with diarrhea caused by Escherichia coli infection, has also increasingly been reported in recent years as a complication of severe pneumococcal infection. Pneumococcal. HUS is atypical because it is not usually associated with diarrhea, and it is thought to have a different pathogenic mechanism. With rare exceptions, it affects only children under age 2. Besides specific antimicrobial therapy, treatment consists of supportive care and avoidance of blood products that might contain antibodies.
