A Re-Os study of noble metal-rich black shales from the Polish Kupferschiefer

摘要
Six samples of Permian noble metal-rich black shales from the Polkowice mine were analyzed for Re-Os isotopes, noble metals, and selected major and trace elements. Negative correlations between common Re and Os and common Os and C-org. indicate that noble metal-rich black shales have not remained in a closed system, especially with respect to Os. The Os-187/Os-188 vs Re-187/Os-188 plot defines an errorchron with an age of 279 +/- 14 Ma (MSWD = 8). The initial Os-187/Os-188 ratio of 1.17 +/- 0.28 (if not altered) is within the variation range of present-day seawater, and excludes any significant contribution from mantle or meteoritic PGE sources.
