摘要
The spallation neutron source SINQ at Villigen, Switzerland, is a continuous source with a flux of about 10(14) n/s cm(2). Nine neutron-scattering instruments will come into operation within the first year, seven of them are situated at neutron guides. The electronics and software required for the various instruments are standardized as far as possible. The SINQ instrument control software (SICS) is implemented as a client server system. The SICS server is implemented in ANSI-C on a digital Unix platform and uses only Posix compliant system calls for maximum portability. Clients provide the user interface, which may be either of the traditional command line type or a more modern graphical user interface. Communication with the front-end electronics is via the TCP/IP internet protocol. Measured data are stored in the NeXus format, a common data exchange format for neutron scattering and X-ray instruments. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
