Periphytic diatoms from Itaqui reservoir, Sao Jose dos Pinhais, Parana: Fragilariales, Eunotiales, Achnanthales and Gomphonema

Periphytic diatoms from Fragilariales, Eunotiales, Achnanthales and Gomphonema Ehrenberg taxa were studied from a reservoir of the Itaqui River, in Sao Jose dos Pinhais, PR. Glass slides were used as artificial substrate that was collected after 30 days of incubation. Sampling occurred quarterly from March 2008 to February 2009 for qualitative analysis. Samples were collected to estimate the trophic state of the reservoir, which was classified as hypereutrophic. Forty-nine taxa were identified, being 44 at infrageneric level. Twelve species were first recorded in the State of Parana: Fragilaria socia, Eunotia rabenhorstiana var. elongata. E. soleirolii, E. ventricosa var. brevis, Gomphonema parvulum f. saprophilum, G. pumilum, Achnanthes ntinuscula, Nupela wellneri, Planothidium frequentissimum, Ulnaria sp., Eunotia sp.2 and Gomphonetna sp.2. Ulnaria sp., Eunotia sp.1, Eunotia sp.2, Gomphonema sp.1 and Gomphonema sp.2, must be so far investigated because no similar form was catalogued on literature.
