Development of pesticide biosensor: Optimization of fiber optic instrument

A new prototype fiber optic instrument (23.5cm x 9.5cm x 7.5cm of size) using Light Emission Diode (LED) has been developed for the development of pesticide biosensor. A study was made to monitor the sensitivity and performance of the device, using chlorpyrifos, a medium class organophosphate pesticide as an analyte. Results obtained using this device was compared with conventional method using a spectrophotometer. Preliminary study shows there are similarities in detection capabilities for both devices. However, further work need to be done to enhance the sensitivity of the fiber optic instrument.
