In order to evaluate the effect of the application of organic matter on the physical and chemical properties of the soil of a community orchard The Chirico, Samuel Trinity parish, Torres municipality, Lara state, soil samples were disturbed and undisturbed in the beds after three months after applied the organic material in air and without the application of organic matter at three depths (0 to 10, 10 to 20 and 20 to 30 cm). A completely 2x3 split plot randomized design was used (handling x depth) with 4 replications. The management is the application of organic matter or not. Among the chemical properties, were determined the electrical conductivity (EC), pH, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus and organic matter. Among the physical properties were determined total porosity, macro and micro-porosity, bulk density and hydraulic conductivity. The application effect of organic matter on the EC, organic matter, K and P was found, but not in pH and Mg. Regarding the physical properties, it was without effect on the total porosity and macroporosity hydraulic conductivity. However, the microspores increased and bulk density decreased with the application of organic matter. It is concluded that the organic matter applied to the soil improved chemical properties in the first 10 cm depth and physical properties remained similar in distances from 0 to 30 cm.
