Targeted therapies and thyroid cancer: an update

The treatment of metastatic, progressive thyroid cancer has evolved over recent years. New 'targeted' therapeutic approaches have been developed along with advances in the knowledge of thyroid carcinogenesis and the identification of tumor and endothelial targets. In recent years, results of targeted therapies have shown some benefit in refractory, progressive, differentiated, and medullary thyroid carcinomas but not, until recently, in undifferentiated thyroid carcinoma.
