Ultra-high birefringence and highly nonlinear dispersion compensating square photonic crystal fiber for fiber optic transmission systems: Design and analysis

摘要
In this paper, we propose an ultra-high birefringence index guiding square photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with large nonlinearity. Finite element method based software COMSOL Multiphysics is utilized to characterize the PCF guiding properties. The proposed fiber exhibits ultrahigh birefringence of 4.375x10(-2) and high value of nonlinear coefficient of 91.25 W(-1)Km(-1) at excitation wavelength 1550nm by using single diameter circular air holes. In addition, fiber properties are compared with some recent PCFs to validate the proposed design. Pitch variation is also considered by taking into account the fabrication issue. The proposed fiber is a promising candidate for fiber optic transmission systems to compensate the effect of dispersion, as well as sensing applications, and super continuum generation.
