Metaleurop Weser Zink GmbH operates a Zinc Electrolysis plant with a capacity of 130 000 t/yr in Nordenham, Germany. The plant uses a solution purification process in which arsenic trioxide is added, The exhaust gas of this step contained arsine concentrations higher than those permitted by the German regulatory requirements as described in "Technische Anleitung Luft." To meet the new regulations, a new gas cleaning process was developed based on oxidative scrubbing, The industrial installation has been in operation for more than two years and produces arsine concentrations in the exhaust gas well below regulatory requirements. Details about different washing media, plant construction and plant operation are reported.
