This research intends to create an analytical process which involves the concept of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), finding representativity with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the document referring to the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014). In this context, we believe that ESD is associated with the concept of imperial science (DELEUZE, GUATTARI, 2012). The debate here considers as an analytical element the literary text "Leonia", present in the book Invisible Cities, by Italo Calvino, whose inhabitants live haunted by the waste from the past. The investigation starts from the studies of Michel Foucault (2015) based on problematization and has the support of Education, Culture, Environment and Philosophy Study Group (GEECAF) of the Federal University of Rio Grande - FURG. Our interest is to identify elements of imperial science focused on the certainty and the norm that circulates in the curriculum area. On the other hand, we believe in Environmental Education as a power to create and inhabit the ruins of our time and constitute other possible environmental educations.
