In this study bismuth-doped yttrium iron garnets with composition BiY2Fe5O12 (Bi : YIG) have been prepared by sintration of metal oxides homogenised in acetone for 10 minutes. The stability of the samples was investigated by thermal analysis (DTA/TGA) and X-ray diffraction technique (XRD). The average crystallite size of the single phase Bi:YIG prepared at temperature 950 degrees C for 15 hours is similar to 65 nm. The TGA/DTA data show the vaporization temperature of bismuth cations from BiY2Fe5O12 is about 1075 degrees C.
