Transformation diagrams of aluminum alloys of the Al-Cu-Mg, Al-Mg-Si-Cu, and Al-Mg-Li systems

Diagrams of isothermal phase transformations (time-temperature-transformation, or TTT curves) and time-temperature-property (TTP) diagrams of changes in the electrical conductivity and mechanical properties upon tensile tests were constructed after heat treatment by the scheme of direct quenching and aging and by the scheme of conventional aging for the commercial alloy D16, a model alloy of the same system Al-Cu-Mg, and commercial alloys AD37 of the Al-Mg-Si-Cu system and 1424 of the Al-U-Mg system. The phase transformations were studied by transmission electron microscopy, electron microprobe, X-ray diffraction analysis of single crystals and polycrystalline samples, and differential scanning calorimetry. A comparison of TTP and TTT diagrams for each alloy makes it possible to reveal the mechanism of the effect of the phase composition of the alloy on its properties and optimize the regimes of quench cooling and aging.
