摘要
The theory that the compiler of the 'Book of Degrees', a thematic history of the Rus' dynasty from St Vladimir to Ivan IV compiled 1560-63, terminated his main narrative in Degree 17 about Ivan IV in 1560 because of his increasing tyranny is based upon an outdated conception of the division of Ivan's reign into 'good' and 'bad' halves and hindsight about events after 1563. The editorial principles employed to present a positive image of Ivan for 1533-60 in Degree 17 could have been used to narrate events 1560-63, as they were in the Illuminated Codex (Lebedev Chronicle).
