摘要
Passive removal materials (PRMs) have recently gained great interest for their abilities in removing indoor pollutants without additional energy consumption and lower amounts of by-products formation. PRMs, based on their mechanism, can be categorized into two groups-photocatalytic oxidation-based and sorptive-based materials. Herein, a comprehensive literature review is conducted on the recent developments in PRMs as emerging building materials for eliminating indoors gaseous pollutants. Accordingly, a discussion about PRMs' performance for removing indoor air pollutants, followed by a detailed review on different types of PRMs and their destruction/sorption mechanisms is provided. Experimental results pertaining to the application of different PRMs for indoor pollutants removal, are compared. The impacts of various environmental and operational parameters on the PRMs' effectiveness are discussed. Finally, the cons and pros of the application of PRMs as an effective air cleaning method are discussed.
