摘要
This paper demonstrates an application of UVVIS multispectral data taken by the Clementine mission. Specifically, we demonstrate techniques by which spectrally distinct mare basalts can be mapped, and estimates of basalt thickness obtained. The region used as an example is souther Oceanus Procellarum, encompassing the Cavalerius, Damoiseau, Marius Hills and Flamsteed areas. We show how Clementine data can unambiguously identify highland material excavated by impact craters across the mare, allowing for estimates of basalt thickness to be made. It is found that the thickness of basalts in this region varies considerably from tens of metres near the mare-highland boundary, to hundreds of metres near the centre of the mare.
