Inhibiting effect of furfural on corrosion of zinc in ethanolic solutions

摘要
Furfural (C4H3OCHO) was shown to inhibit the corrosion processes of Zn in ethanolic solutions. Results obtained from different electrochemical methods confirmed this effect. Inhibition depended upon the adsorption step and was affected by the incidence of polychromatic light on the metal surface. Protection efficiency of C4H3OCHO was higher when the system was kept in the dark than when under illumination. An inhibition process involving an adsorption step of C4H3OCHO was proposed.
