As private social media such as Snapchat and WhatsApp becomes popular among the world, businesses and individuals are interested in advertising products or publicizing them-selves to customers via private social media. However, it is difficult for a business to know how to attract customers on such platforms because the information of, for example, the number of followers of a user, is not public and does not have much value. Businesses can neither obtain users` dialogues in their chat because social media companies usually do not sell their data to other businesses. This paper analyzes WeChat (the most popular social media in mainland China), and specifically, WeChat web applications (an HTML5 webpage embedded WeChat, frequently used for advertisements or publications). For a promotion to be successful, businesses usually seek to have as many viewers read their applications as possible (defined as page view in this paper). We define several key features of an application, and find what qualities or features of an application boost its page view. Ultimately, we provide suggestions from various perspectives for publishers to maximize the page view for their applications.
