Robust quadric fitting and mensuration comparison in a mapping space applied to 3D morphological characterization of articular surfaces

摘要
This paper tackles the issue of the global morphological characterization and quantitative comparison of anatomical shapes, such as bone articular surfaces. This is performed by robustly fitting implicit quadratic surfaces which form an eigenvector decomposition. In addition to 3D examination of the results, mensuration analysis is made easier in an original mapping 2D space: the Quadric Shape Map (QSM). A first application to the hip joint produces discriminating signatures between healthy and pathological clinical cases.
