VHE Gamma-ray Astronomy and Cosmic Rays

摘要
Present status of very high energy (VHE) gamma-ray astronomy is overviewed with an attention to cosmic ray physics, in particular, in the energy region around 10(15) eV. The general trend of the current VHE gamma-ray astronomy is towards atmospheric Cerenkov telescope of greater aperture size for lower threshold energy. The new projects which soon commence operation will extend investigation to more sources; SNRs, blazars and so on. Prospect for clarifying the long standing problem of the origin of Galactic and extragalactic cosmic rays is discussed. For this purpose, VHE gamma-ray astronomy has a task of exploring new classes of sources other than SNR and blazars, and it is necessary to develop telescope for wide field of view, larger detection area and the energy region higher than TeV.
