Comparison of electrochemical corrosion between coarse-grained and fine-grained WC-Al2O3 composites in acidic and alkaline solutions

摘要
Coarse-grained and fine-grained WC-Al2O3 composites were prepared by adjusting sintering process. The grain sizes of the coarse-grained and fine-grained composite are 4.29 mu m and 3.14 mu m, respectively. The effect of grain size on the corrosion properties of WC-Al2O3 composites in acidic and alkaline solutions was studied by electrochemical technology. Compared with fine-grained composite, coarse-grained composite has higher corrosion potential, higher total resistance and lower corrosion current density. Therefore, it can be concluded that the fine-grained composite exhibits poor corrosion resistance in acidic and alkaline solutions. The poor corrosion resistance of fine-grained composite is mainly due to more grain boundaries, which accelerates the corrosion of composite at the initial stage.
