A method for the preparation of amorphous hydrogenated carbon films containing Au nanoparticles, on single crystal silicon substrates by heat treatment of poly(phenylcarbyne) polymer and HAuCl4, was presented. The thickness of the composite film was measured to be approximately 1 μm using a surface profile instrument. It was found that the proposed method could homogeneously disperse Au nanoparticles into the a-C: H matrix. The method significantly simplified the preparation of metal-doped a-C: H composite films and made the process cost effective.
