Researchers share their complementary views on a paper by professor Georges Calas entitled 'TiO2 content on the crystallization and the color of (ZrO2, TiO2)-doped Li2O?Al2O3?SiO2 glasses'. The paper deals with the effect of TiO2 content on the structure and crystallization of lithium aluminosilicate (LAS) glasses. The paper aims to relate the structure and microstructure of the LAS glasses and glass-ceramics to their coloration. Several techniques such as EPR, XANES, and TEM have been used to study structure and microstructure, while DTA and XRD have been used to study crystallization. The optical transmission spectra of the LAS glasses show that the UV absorption is shifted to the visible range due to the addition of TiO2 from 2 mol% of TiO2.
