A Study on the Operating Efficiency of Chinese Tourism Enterprises: From the Space-time Perspective

Tourism enterprises are the most important component section of Chinese tourism industry and its operating efficiency will have a vital impact on the development of tourism industry. This paper analyses the annual changing situation and regional differences of the operating efficiency of Chinese tourism enterprises and its influencing factors via factor analysis and regression analysis based on panel data, covering 12 financial indexes such as ROE et al of Chinese tourism enterprises from 2004 to 2008 in the 31 provinces, municipalities or autonomous regions. The results indicate the operating efficiency of the tourism enterprises in the eastern coastal areas excels those in the central and western areas, and remarkable regional differences are identified; major positive influencing factors on the operation efficiency of Chinese tourism enterprises include the consumption level of individual residents and per person fixed assets, and the negative influencing factor is the business revenue ratio of star-rated hotels to the revenue of local tourism enterprises.
