A synthetic path is established in which [Pt-2(CO)(x)(PPh(3))(4-x)(mu-S)] (x = 0-2) can be prepared from [Pt-2(PPh(3))(4)(mu-S)(2)] under CO at low pressure whereby reductive desulfurization of a {(Pt2S2)-S-II} core gives way to a Pt-Pt bonded ((Pt2S)-S-I) triangle with extrusion of COS gas.
