This paper presents a new multicast protocol, called Gateway-Based Multicast Protocol (GBMP). Receivers are grouped into local groups, in which a group-shared tree, whose root is called a Gateway Node, connects receivers and intermediate nodes. The gateway nodes and multicast sources make up a mesh. A hop-limited Receiver-Initiated Attach Procedure is introduced for multicast receivers to cope with link breakages. A new technique, Anonymous Receive Mode, is proposed to improve transmission efficiency. Simulation results show that our protocol outperforms ODMRP.
