N-(2,4,6-Trimethylphenyl)methanesulfonamide

The structure of the title compound, C10H15NO2S, resembles those of other methanesulfonanilides, with similar geometric parameters except for some differences in the bond and torsion angles. The amide H atom lies on one side of the plane of the benzene ring, while the methanesulfonyl group is on the opposite side of the plane, as in other methanesulfonanilides. The amide H atom is thus available to a receptor molecule during its biological activity. The molecules are packed into polymeric chains in the direction of the b axis through N - H...O hydrogen bonds.
