Modeling of the bulk properties of aqueous solutions of hydrophilic nonelectrolytes

Equations relating the bulk properties of solutions of hydrophilic nonelectrolytes with the concentration were obtained within the framework of the model of nonstoichiometric hydration. The partial molar volumes of the components and the solution volume change caused by hydration DeltaV degrees were the parameters of the equations. The absolute value and sign of DeltaV degrees were the integral characteristics of the hydration of nonelectrolytes. It was found that the model adequately describes the available data on the density of aqueous solutions of various nonelectrolytes (saccharose, fructose, glucose, raffinose, etc.) over the entire concentration range covered. The DeltaV degrees values are negative and decrease in absolute value with increasing temperature, being indicative of a decrease in the contribution from hydration to the nonideality of the solutions.
