摘要
The present study examines four coal samples from Sohagpur (South Eastern) Coal Field, Madhya Pradesh, India with its geographical coordinates of 22 degrees 42' 0'' North, 78 degrees 12' 0'' to recognize the presence of hydrocarbon content using XRD and FT-IR analysis. The peaks observed from FT-IR were compared using standard functional group charts and the adsorption band from XRD analysis used to identify the coal ranks. XRD mineralogical analysis results the existence of hydrogen, carbon, oxygen content and bands at 2h = 26-28 show the higher rank coal content. The FT-IR study shows the sharp intense peak between 2850 cm-1 and 3000 cm-1 for ensuring presence of unsaturated hydrocarbons and minor amount of aromatic compounds. Results also indicate that the coal samples were matured with moderate to high rank, which possibly possess the aliphatic H and aromatic H. The present study also focusses on sample pattern and other organic compounds to predict the possibility of commercial gas production from those samples. (c) 2021 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
