(Chemical Equation Presented) An efficient, selective, and atom-economical access to ketal building blocks is provided by the title reaction (see scheme). The entire process occurs smoothly in the presence of a catalytic amount of [{lr(cod)Cl}2] at room temperature in methanol, ethanol, or allyl alcohol as solvents. © 2005 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
